Job Description

The SME Officer is responsible for managing and developing the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) portfolio by evaluating credit and investment applications, conducting financial analysis, monitoring client performance, ensuring proper documentation, and maintaining portfolio quality. The role supports business growth while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Identify market and develop relationships with SME clients.
  2. Appraise SME credit/investment applications including business feasibility, repayment capacity, and financial performance.
  3. Conduct financial analysis cash flow assessment and risk analysis of SME customers.
  4. Prepare complete credit/investment proposals and submit for approval.
  5. Ensure proper documentation and compliance with bank policies and regulatory requirements.
  6. Monitor SME facilities.
  7. Conduct regular client visits for assessment and monitoring
  8. Monitor portfolio performance and ensure timely recovery of installments.
  9. Follow up on overdue accounts and initiate recovery actions when required.
  10. Maintain accurate and updated client records and files.
  11. Ensure credit exposure remains within approved risk limits.
  12. Review license validity, collateral documentation, and other legal requirements.
  13. Use credit-scoring tools and internal risk-rating systems where applicable.
  14. Prepare periodic portfolio reports and performance charts for management.
  15. Stay updated on market trends, legal requirements, and regulatory changes affecting SMEs.
  16. Responsible for recovery of the investment clients
  17. Coordinate with internal departments (Risk, Compliance, Operations) to ensure smooth processing of SME cases.
  18. Contribute to improving the quality of SME credit applications.
  19. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager or senior management. 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Banking, or Related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in SME banking or investment/loan processing (preferably in a bank or financial institution).
  • Strong knowledge of SME financial analysis and risk assessment.
  • Good understanding of banking regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Fluency in Dari, Pashto, and English (both written and spoken).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
