Job Description
The Legal Officer will provide crucial support to the Legal Department in managing a range of legal tasks within the department. This role involves assisting in the preparation and drafting of legal documents, conducting research on legal issues, and maintaining records of legal proceedings. The Assistant will also help in coordinating communication between the Legal Department, panel lawyers, and various departments within the Bank. This position is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of the legal functions and supporting the overall objectives of the legal team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducting preliminary legal research on various substantive and procedural issues to support the Legal Head.
- Assisting in the drafting and preparation of legal documents, contracts, and correspondence as required by the department.
- Maintaining records of ongoing legal cases and assisting in the organization of case files, documentation, and evidence.
- Tracking court dates, deadlines, and other important dates related to legal matters and providing reminders to the Legal Officer.
- Coordinating communication between the Legal Officer and internal departments, as well as external legal representatives.
- Assisting in the processing of fee bills from advocates and maintaining records of settlements.
- Aiding departments in preparing responses to legal notices received by the Bank.
- Supporting the Legal Officer in ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements relevant to the Bank’s operations.
- Organizing and maintaining a comprehensive filing system for legal documents and correspondence.
- Supporting the preparation of legal opinions, analyses, and reports as requested by the Legal Officer.
- Attending departmental meetings and taking minutes as needed, distributing relevant information to team members.
- Handling various administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing correspondence, and maintaining office supplies.
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay updated on legal trends and practices that may affect the Bank.
- Any other job-related task assigned by the line manager or the management.
Job Requirement
- Minimum high school; additional legal qualifications are a plus.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a legal support role or internship in a law firm or corporate legal department is preferred.
- Understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in legal research and analysis.
- Familiarity with legal software and databases.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in drafting documents and conducting research.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support colleagues as needed.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive legal matters.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
